Statement #15

The Dutch are cultural magpies. They keep a beady eye on other people's cultural trends, and are swift to snap up sparkling new fashions. This means that rather than producing an indigenous culture, they have become voracious consumers of everybody else's - true Europeans, whose cultural fads and fancies know no borders. The Netherlands acts as a giant cultural sponge.

Dear Hans,
I like the Dutch. I think they are very special people. If there is anything of value, in Canada, that they would want to imitate, they can sponge all they want. It would be an honour.:)

P.S. We took tulips from them. May I suggest they add our maple syrup and candies to their culture?

All the best!

Geert,
Actually, we didn't take the tulips. They are given to us every spring as a gift of gratitude. I mentioned this before. But we certainly took to the tulips. What else do we do that's Dutch? It would be fun to know...
Cheers!

Dear Hans,
Laughing my heart out here. :)))))There is one thing I would like to borrow from some Dutch people, like Bertus and Geert: their sense of humour!:)

Our socialism was born with Pierre Trudeau. He was a Marxist. Nothing Dutch about it...

All the best!

I saw Frisian cattle even in Zambia, just like carnations and roses grown by Dutch market gardeners.
Which reminds me: i just saw lots and lots of tulips in Istanbul last weekend. Didn't tulips originate from Turkey and the Near East?

To Hans, Geert and Bertus,

I just googled: Dutch people in Canada. In 2006, we had 1 035 965 Dutch Canadians. They are perfect citizens.

I would be very glad to welcome more. Just tell me when you're ready to move.:)

All the best!

Geert - You missed the first ONE...
It's 1,035,965 Dutch Canadians in 2006.

They're very religious in B.C.: Dutch Reform. Better come to Ontario, close to Toronto.
