"Now you understand the Oriental passion for tea," said Japhy. "Remember that book I told you about the first sip is joy, the second is gladness, the third is serenity, the fourth is madness, the fifth is ecstasy."
Jack Kerouac (1922 - 1969)

few people know that it was princess catarina of portugal who married charles II, king of england, who introduced tea to the brits.
another little known fact... portugal was trading with brazil for about 50 years before columbus "discovered" america.
another little known fact... in the 1500s, portugal was the richest nation on earth, with only 100,000 inhabitants.
ok... now you know... ;)
Hans - Pauvre Tit-Jean...He wasn't very happy On the Road, and anywhere else. Maybe he should have stopped drinking tea after the third sip!
Or whatever else, he was known to drink.:)

I love those bits of history, Alias Jones. My French Canadian mother would only make 'real' tea, from leaves. She could tell me if I would meet the right gentleman when reading the leaves stuck to the cup after I drank the liquid. I wish she would still be around to prophesize my life...:)
The sad thing about the "Western" passion for tea...whole generations of slaves brought over to plantations...millions of black and indigenous people, grandmothers who wouldn't see their grandchildren free...
